We're number four! We're number four!

Fourth. In the entire nation.

As Keanu would say, Woah.

Got an email from Ben Cady (class of 2001, my brother) this morning:

Hey everyone,

[Josh] Belleville ['01] and this one dude said they'd fight the day after graduation (in a ring, with gloves, etc.) if we got 100 signatures. We've got 68...help us out! No strings attached!

Assorted MLK assembly thingumses [22 Jan 2005|09:00pm]

So the New York State Senate declared the friday of this year's Keeping The Dream Alive assembly, um, they declared it Mrs. Irene McVay Day. I do hope I got her name correct.
So that's a vast honour for her.

In other news, you know how Mr. Gearing always plays Bruce Springsteen's "No Surrender" every year at said assembly?
I decided this was far too awesome a song, so I of course went out and downloaded it.
And compared to Mr. Gearing's version, the Springesteen version is crap. I mean, what the heck?

So, anyway, I do wish I had an mp3 of Mr. Gearing performing "No Surrender".
But I doubt any such thing exists.

worst post ever... [16 Nov 2004|08:27pm]

On November 13th, Derick Zinnerstrom, CHS alumnus from the class of '98 and love of my life...hell, I'll go ahead and say fiance...passed away. I don't know if anyone here remembers him, but he was one of a kind, and is missed desperately. I was going to move back to Buffalo, we would live together and finish our degrees there, move to Vancouver and adopt kids...get married somewhere in there...nobody saw this coming. I won't ramble about this here, I've done that enough in my journal. I guess I just wanted to let everyone know.

Um...I guess the best way to introduce myself is as Anne (gods, I hate that name. Call me Anna), c/o '98. I don't like giving out my last name on LJ, but I was the only Anne in the class, so... And never mind the username, I've had it for going on 3 years. I'm currently exiled to New Orleans, but like salmon returning to spawn, I'll most likely be moving back in a few years to go to UB. Hopefully not to spawn.

Anyways, I was just curious how many CHS peeps had an LJ, wanted to see if I knew anyone here. My sister's Claire, c/o '02 but I guess she isn't in here.

Back to school. [08 Sep 2004|04:07pm]

Man, there's a horde of new teachers this year.
I guess I didn't exactly connect the two thoughts - that a BUNCH of people are retiring, so that means a BUNCH of new teachers.
There's a guy in the tech room that I think I recognize, though. Might be the old tech teacher come back from a year away, might be my tech teacher from Olmsted - I wouldn't be able to tell them apart if I tried.
I was looking for Cochrane, see, to gloat over the fact that I never have to deal with him again - I mean, uh, to, uh, wish him a happy return to school.
I couldn't find him, because the tech teacher had retaken the tech room that Cochrane taught history in last year.
This year, I'm taking AP Government, with a teacher whom I think is new.
Brand-new teacher for English, a spur-of-the-moment thing, because Balzer is doing some coordination stuff for, like, the IB program or somesuch. Which is too bad, being as... thing.
Never mind.

Anyway, it turns out the new computer teacher is Fundy's sister. Isn't that something?
Not that I actually ever, you know, interacted with Fundy himself - sorry, man - but he's the only person who's seen fit to create an lj community for CHS folks, and as such, is automatically given the status of 'awesome'.

party party! [02 Jun 2004|06:33pm]

[ mood | cheerful ]

Ok, I know you8 guys barely EVER actually show for more then a few minutes to my parties but you HAVE to come to this one. It is specifically aimed at City Honors kids!

Joey D might possibly be the only person from our class to actually benefit from all those silly IB and AP classes, and yep he's graduating this semester.... It probably weas more the 21 credit hour semesters then the AP and IB courses though. His graduation ceremony was a couple weeks ago and we're FINALLY throwing him a party.

June 13th, probably arounmd 6 ish we're going to start our party until the wee hours of the night... The Bites club, as well as other class of 2001'ers of random crews should be attending... and I saw Randy the other day and I'm gonna bug Erin Carmen to come too. It should be a good time. It's a SUNDAY but none of you are in school and it should be a good time. So any of you who are in buffalo come!

...And since our last costume party was such a success.... It's going to be a TOGA PARTY!! :) aren't we dorks? Anyway, togas are optional but all the cool people will be wearing them....

OH and by the way I finally have state i.d. so next time u guys plan a group outting to the strip clubs or some craziness like that, let me know.... How is everyone??? Respond to me so I know you actually read this.

all is full of love,

Heil, mein flip-flop-fuhrer! [26 Mar 2004|03:38pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

Have you guys been paying attention to what Battaglia has been doing to our school?
Probably not.
Which is why I'm gonna tell you:
She's turning it into a fascist regime.
Let's see the list of restrictions she's imposed, in roughly chronological order...

No eating in the halls.
No leaving the cafeteria.
Always sign into study hall and the library.
No electronic devices (luckily, this doesn't include calculators...)
She's been trying to regulate which of the school doors certain groups can leave by!
No leaving classes even a fraction of a second before the bell rings.
No card-playing.
No sitting in the halls.

And that's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
Plus she's been (horrors!) actually enforcing the legitimate rules that you can find in the student handbook.
Plus her never-ending cumpulsive obsession with flip-flops.

Anyway, what she fails to realize is the following:
City Honors students are superior to all others, not because we're smarter (tho' we are), but because we are responsible for our actions.
City Honors, the way I see it, was founded on a premise of integrity, responsibility, and trust.
Stop trusting the students, and you lose their responsibility. Lose the responsibility, lose our overall moral integrity. Lose the integrity, lose everything that makes City Honors different from every other school.
Battaglia is trying to drive our school into the dirt.

I didn't actually come to City Honors until '01-'02, which was the second year of Battaglia's reign of terror, so I never actually knew what it was like without her. But I do know that her power was not yet secure when I first arrived, so she hadn't yet started undermining everything the school stood for.
I can, however, tell that there is a major difference between the free, liberal, learning-conducive environment of my Freshman year and the oppressive, stifling environment of this, my Junior, year.

At least this year is almost over, next year I'll be a Senior and thus Battaglia will have much less control over me, and the year after that I'll be out of here.
My class, or maybe even just the current Senior class, will have been the last class to have experienced the freedoms we had before Battaglia came into power.
Mark my words, soon City Honors will fall from its place of prominence as the top public school in the state and will plunge into the dark pit of mediocrity.

So I leave you today with this remark:
Be very glad y'all got out before Battaglia screwed the school over.

- Nathan Jay Grammer

Well, howdy, folks! [15 Mar 2004|08:39pm]

[ mood | found ]

I was just thinking on how vast swaths of my time is spent being bored, and I realized that a small portion of this time would be better-spent if I had more friends on LiveJournal. I thought for a minute, then I decided to see if anybody at CHS has a LiveJournal. And I found: If they do, only a very few people have City Honors listed as an Interest. Unsurprising.
What -was- surprising was an entire community devoted to City Honors! And thus I decided this was the perfect candidate for friends-list-adding.
Thus, allow me to introduce myself:
Nathan Grammer. Currently a junior at the school.
And beyond that, you either know me or you don't. I was going to describe myself, but... yeah, I've found that most people who know me know me by both name and appearance. And most people who don't know my name don't know me at all.
And thus, and this most sincerely goes out to all my new honorary homies, both at CHS and graduated;
Hey. What's up?
